The Best Hunting Dogs | Pointing Labradors

After spending the majority of my life hunting and another great portion raising hunting dogs, my father and I have come to realize that Labradors are without a doubt the best waterfowl dog out there. At Lankas Labs, we’ve focused solely on this breed because we know that you’ll never find a better pointing dog. During my lifetime, we’ve hunted with and raised Brittany’s Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Spring Spaniels, Weimaraners, German Shorthairs, German Wirehaired, English Pointers, Irish Setters, and finally Labradors. Out of each of those breeds, we’ve found again and again that Labradors have the best attributes that make them ideal for waterfowl hunting. They are bred specifically for marking, retrieving, and delivering waterfowl directly to their hunting companion.

Their physical qualities make the perfect retriever. The labs double coat allows them to thrive in cold weather conditions and repel water. Their webbed paws make them perfect for swimming through swamps and lakes. Their physical build also makes them a strong and dependable hunting partner.

In addition to their physical qualities, Labradors are also among the most intelligent breeds out there. They mature at a faster pace than many other breeds, allowing them to learn whistle and hand signals fairly early on. Many times they grasp complex field maneuvers without trouble.

Not only are they great for hunting, but our labs are so docile and really make for the ideal family pet. When it’s not hunting season, you’ll be able to find your lab a loving spot in your family. We’ve raised our dogs and puppies around tons of children and have accustomed them to loud noises, making them great around families and children.
