An All American Dog: The Labrador Retriever

One of the most popular breeds in the United States, the Labrador retriever is known for its ability to train. Whether you are looking for a family companion, a hunting dog or a police k-9, the Labrador is an idea choice. A highly intelligent dog, Labradors are great with children and socialize easily with other dogs, pets and people.

Labrador retrievers come in three colors- black, yellow, and chocolate, black being the most common. Black Labs are known for being successful competition dogs. Yellow Labradors are commonly the breed of choice for police dogs, and chocolate labs are the rarest of the three colors. While many people think you breed for a specific color, all three colors can be present in one litter.

An active breed, Labradors require daily exercise and need lots of room to run and play. Athletic dogs, Labs are also exceptional swimmers, mainly because of their otter-like tail.
